CITY OF BOSTON, WYNN STRIKE DEAL ON EVERETT CASINO
BOSTON (AP) – Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has struck a deal with casino mogul Steve Wynn over a $1.7 billion casino and hotel project in Everett that promises compensation to the city if it drops all legal efforts.
The Boston Globe (http://bit.ly/20tT2BD ) reports the billionaire developer can go forward with his waterfront casino plans while Boston will receive an extra $6 million in payments.
Wynn will also contribute $25 million and the two entities have agreed to commit to traffic improvements at Sullivan Square.
The agreement was announced Wednesday.
Other new terms of the deal include Wynn paying Boston $750,000 to defray legal costs incurred during the lawsuit challenging the sale of state land. The city had put up $1.9 million in legal fees.
The casino is slated for a late 2018 opening.
